Description:
Large wagtail, with varied plumages, but mostly yellow and grey, quite similar to Grey and Yellow Wagtail. Broad white wing-bars in all plumages. Male breeding has yellow head and underparts, and black or grey mantle. Female have yellow supercilium continuing around ear-coverts, grey upperparts, and mainly yellow underparts.
Distribution:
Common summer visitor to the districts of Gilgit-Baltistan, especially to highlands. Breeds in high-altitude wet grassland, marshes, edges of lakes and willow bushes on mountain meadows up to 3900m; winters near freshwater wetlands.
Behavior:
Forages by picking and darting for prey; takes items from the ground, from low vegetation or from water surface. Walks on open wet ground at edge of water and on floating mats of aquatic vegetation; wades in shallow water. Food includes wide variety of invertebrates, often aquatic, and their larvae.
